The creative process of an artist sometimes can lead them to instances of insightful isolation in order to conceive reflections of a moment in time, that are absolutely destined to be shared with their communities and the world. When new and fresh ideas are brought forth, they generate a new way to see, appreciate, and remember the important relationship that the interaction with Art can create within. NEW PERSPECTIVES presented works of Art to the Newman and New Orleans communities that recounted a storyline of contemporaneity, diversity, and unity. This exhibition made by immigrants narrated the vision and power of a group of talented and creative minds who share and contribute leaving a positive impression into the work and lives of the spirit and core of Newman School. From October 24th until December 2nd of 2017, Newman students were able to enjoy and learn from this remarkable exhibition at the school’s Reynolds Ryan Art Gallery. This experience provided them the opportunity to create their own work inspired by Latin-American Art. The students were mentored by artists Gustavo Duque, Belinda Flores-Shinshillas, Carmen Mariscal, Piki Mendizabal, and Cristina Molina through academic exchanges such as lectures, gallery visits, and workshops. As the result of a year-long close collaboration between Newman School, the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the Consulate of Mexico and the Mexican Cultural Institute in New Orleans, Newman students were able to identify, appreciate and recognize Hispanic Culture. IMPRESSIONS by NEW PERSPECTIVES was the culmination of this multicultural and diverse partnership that was conceived to bring people together and allowed Hispanic artists to inspire talented young minds starting a positive conversation that hopefully will last for generations to come. This exhibition assembles the works of Art of students from Early Childhood to 12th Grade whose lives will now look at Hispanic Culture in a refreshing new way.
